Yarmouth Mall is an enclosed mall in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Its currently anchored by Running Man Grocery Mart, Sobeys, Winners, Rossy, and Sport Chek. The mall is one of the most popular shopping centres in lower Nova Scotia, with a mix of national and local tenants.
History[]
Yarmouth Mall opened in 1973 with Zellers and Sobeys as its main anchors. This new Zellers replaced the old one which on Main Street in Yarmouth. This was the second mall in Yarmouth, the other one was quite close by and on the same road as Yarmouth Mall. However, Yarmouth Mall remained competitive, as it had more stores and was bigger than the other mall.
Throughout the next couple decades, the mall continued to remain successful. In the early 2000s, Yarmouth Mall became the only mall in the area after the other mall permanently closed.
In 2004, part of the parking lot was used to build a new outparcel which originally had Movie Gallery, Mark's, Sears, and Quiznos. A few years later, Sears moved down the road and the space was replaced with Source for Sports which continues to be there today.
In 2010, the underwent a major interior renovation. Floor tile, fixtures, and lighting was redone. A new road sign was also added.
In March 2013, Yarmouth Malls main anchor, Zellers permanently closed. The space was divided into Rossy, Great Canadian Dollar Store, and Winners. Around this time, Sport Chek moved in and Sears moved back into the mall. Sears lasted until 2017, when it closed because of bankruptcy.
In the early 2020s, many tenants were changed. Some stores such as GNC, Alia & Tanjay, Carlton Cards, Payless Shoe Source, and more closed because of bankruptcy. Great Canadian Dollar Store closed and was replaced with Dollarama. Lawtons Drugs closed and was replaced with Running Man Grocery Mart.
Even though the mall has lost tenants over the last few years, Yarmouth Mall has managed to replace most of them with new tenants. Because of this, the mall remains competitive against other shopping centres in the area.
