Woodfield Mall is a two-level shopping mall 27.7 miles (44.5 km) northwest of downtown Chicago, Illinois, between Perimeter Drive, West Drive, Plaza Drive, Mall Drive, McConnor Parkway, Golf Road, American Lane, North Meacham Road, Woodfield Road and Interstate 290 in Schaumburg, a suburb of Chicago. The mall has four open anchors which are JCPenney, Macy's, Nordstrom and Primark.
Mall History[]
On September 9, 1971, Woodfield Mall opened to the public. The mall's original anchors were Marshall Field's and Sears. In October 1971, a third anchor was added which was JCPenney. In October 1972, the mall was expanded and added a fourth anchor which was Lord & Taylor, along with 25 new stores being added. An ice skating rink was also added inside of the mall, which was called Woodfield Ice Arena. In May 1979, ABC Theatres opened four-screen cinema inside of the mall. In June 1985, Woodfield Ice Arena closed down and was remodeled into five-screen movie theater, owned by Plitt Theatres. In March 1993, Woodfield Mall was expanded once again with an addition of 20 new stores. A fifth anchor was also added which was Nordstrom. Lord & Taylor also got a new anchor space, replacing the former space with more store spaces. In September 2006, Marshall Field's was converted into Macy's. In January 2013, Taubman Centers sold the mall to Simon Property Group and CalPERS. In 2021,
On August 20, 2020, it was announced that Lord & Taylor would be closing as part of a of a plan to close 24 stores nationwide.
On February 12, 2021, Sears closed it was the last location in Illinois to remain open.
In 2023 Primark opened on the upper level of the former Sears on October 12, 2023.
In January of 2024, Zellano Home Furniture moved into the lower level of the former Sears but the store is not a anchor because it is not connected to the mall.
