The Shoppes at Coventry, formerly Norco Mall and Coventry Mall was a one-level shopping mall 41.7 miles (67.1 km) northwest of Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, between Benjamin Franklin Highway, Laurelwood Road, Pottstown Pike, Union Avenue, West Schuylkill Road, and Whartnaby Avenue in North Coventry Township, a suburb of Philadelphia. The mall has two open anchors which are Boscov's and Kohl's.
History[]
Old Power Center[]
Norco Mall originally opened as a power center on October 5, 1967. The shopping center opened with two anchors which were Britt's and Sears. Other retail tenants at the shopping center were Pantry Pride and Thrift Drug.
Enclosed Mall[]
In 1974, the Norco Mall was enclosed and expanded, the new expansion brought a third anchor which was J.M. Fields. A two-screen moved theater also opened at the mall which was operated by Fox Theatres. In 1978, both Britt's and J.M. Fields closed down. Also in 1978, Hess's opened in the former Britt's space. In 1979, the mall was acquired by Goodman Properties and the mall was renamed from Norco Mall to Coventry Mall. In 1980, Jefferson Ward opened in the former J.M. Fields space. In 1985, Jefferson Ward closed down. Also in 1985, a fourth anchor was added which was Pomeroy's. In 1986, Bradlees opened in the former Jefferson Ward space. In 1990, Pomeroy's closed down. In 1994, Boscov's opened in the former Pomeroy's space. Also in 1994, Hess's closed down. Also in 1994, JCPenney opened in the former Hess's space but closed the same year, as the space had became Bon-Ton. In 2001, Bradlees closed and was subdivided between Dick's Sporting Goods and Ross Dress for Less. In 2004, Bon-Ton closed down. In 2005, Kohl's opened in the former Bon-Ton space. In April 2012, Sears closed down. In January 2014, Ross Dress for Less closed down.
