Launched in 1994, T.K. Maxx introduced off-price retailing to the U.K. and Ireland, and today, is Europe's only major off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions. T.K. Maxx expanded into Germany in 2007, into Poland in 2009, into the Netherlands in 2015, and into Australia in 2017.
The name of the store was changed to T.K. Maxx instead of T.J. Maxx to avoid confusion with the British retailer T.J. Hughes.
T.K. Maxx offers great values in top-brand family apparel and home fashions, including women's footwear, lingerie, accessories and other merchandise, such as luggage and toys.
In 2008, HomeSense opened its first locations in Europe.[1] Some locations are paired with T.K. Maxx stores. As of 2024, there are 79 locations.[2]
As of 2024, T.K. Maxx operates 644 stores,[2] which average approximately 32,000 square feet in size. "We believe that Europe provides enormous store-growth opportunities, and that our current European markets alone could support about 650-725 T.K. Maxx stores long term."
