Southgate USA is a power center 14.4 miles (23.2 km) northwest of downtown Cleveland, Ohio, between Libby Road, Northfield Road, Warrensville Center Road and Southgate Park Boulevard in Maple Heights, a suburb of Cleveland. It has four anchors which is Giant Eagle, The Home Depot, Shoppers World and Forman Mills.

History[]

Southgate USA was opened to the public in 1955, developed by A. Siegler & Sons, Southgate was one of the nation's first large shopping centers at the time. Southgate opened with four anchor stores which were JCPenney, Sears, Taylor’s which in 1961 was rebranded May Company and A&P. In 1964, General Cinemas opened a movie theater at Southgate, which was the first General Cinemas location in the Cleveland area. Southgate Cinemas 3 opened in February 1964, it would later get expanded to five-screens in the 1970's. In 1975, A&P closed down. In 1976, Southgate lost Sears, JCPenney and later May Company as they all moved to the brand new Randall Park Mall in North Randall. In 1978, Kmart opened in the former Sears space, that Kmart location was the largest one in the state of Ohio. Also during the 70s, Southgate Skates opened a roller rink and was a huge success at the shopping center. In 2003, the former Kmart was demolished and replaced with Home Depot.
