Sears Home was a Home store in Canada that was founded and operated by Sears. At their peak, they operated in 8 of 10 provinces. Because of their parent companies struggles, some Sears Home stores were closed throughout the 2010s. The last Sears Home stores closed in the 2017 Sears Canada bankruptcy.

History[]

In 1995, Sears Canada launched Sears Whole Home. These stores focused on home decor and furniture. Most Sears locations were located in enclosed shopping malls. But Sears Home stores were primarily located in power centres and open-air shopping centres.

In 1999, Sears Whole Home changed its name to Sears Furniture and appliances. With the name change, Sears Home started selling appliances.

In 2003, the store had a final name change to Sears Home. With the name change, stores started offering more selection related to home decor and furnishings such as floor coverings, drapery, and more.

A year later, a couple spin-offs were made. These stores were called Sears Appliances & Mattresses and Sears Coverings Stores. Not many locations were opened with these store formats.

In the 2000s, some larger Sears stores were downsized to add a Sears Home location within them.

In the 2010s, Sears Canada began to decline because of competition from other retailers. Because of this, some Sears Home locations were permanently closed. During this time, The Sears Home colour scheme was changed from yellow, green and blue to a more modern gray colour scheme.

In 2017, Sears Canada filed for bankruptcy protection. However, Sears was unable to leave bankruptcy, because of this. Sears Canada liquified all of their assets, resulting in all Sears Canada locations to permanently close. This included Sears Home stores. The last Sears Home locations closed by the end of the year.
