History[]

Rossy was founded in 1949 by Michael Rossy. Originally, Michael worked for his fathers now defunct department store chain called Rossy S. But he decided to leave that business to start his own. Michael Rossy was successful with his business, and it continued to grow throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, with the chain growing into many stores throughout Montréal.

In the 1980s, Michael decided to expand his chain outside of Montréal and into other parts of Québec and into the province of New Brunswick. By 1990, Rossy had 68 stores throughout Québec, New Brunswick, and Ontario.

In 2012, Rossy seized the opportunity to expand into Newfoundland when the discount department store Hart filed for bankruptcy and closed their Newfoundland stores. They opened 10 stores in Newfoundland, making their store count 78.

In 2015, Rossy opened their first 5 stores in Nova Scotia. These stores were opened in former Zellers and Hart locations.

In 2021, Rossy renovated 7 of their stores with a new store concept, these renovations made the stores brighter, and have a more modern feel.

Since 2021, Rossy has continued to open new locations and renovate old ones, and they are continuing to do well.
