RioCan Centre Kingston is a power centre in Kingston, Ontario. Its current anchors are The Home Depot, Best Buy, PetSmart, Staples, among other stores.
History[]
Construction on RioCan Centre Kingston started in 1999 next to a factory and fields. The power centre opened in June of 2000 with Cineplex Odeon, The Home Depot, Sears Home, and Home Outfitters as some of its major tenants.
Throughout the next decade, RioCan Centre Kingston continued to run without many changes.
In 2015 and 2016, the factory next to the power centre was demolished. A few years later, construction started on a new suburban development on the land which includes condos and single family housing. This suburban development is directly connected to RioCan Centre Kingston via a roundabout.
In August 2017, Sears Home permanently closed after Sears left the Canadian market. Winners and Homesense moved into the space. The old locations within the property were turned into Giant Tiger and Bad Boy Furniture.
A year later in 2018. Home Outfitters closed after the Hudson's Bay Company discontinued the chain. The store continues to sit vacant.
In 2023, Bed Bath & Beyond filed for bankruptcy and closed all locations throughout Canada. In 2024, Pro Hockey Life moved into the space.
Today, RioCan Centre Kingston continues to be a popular power centre in Kingston as one of the largest shopping destinations in the city.
