The Renfrew Centre is an open-air shopping center in Renfrew, Ontario, Canada. Built in 2004, it was formerly owned and operated by RioCan REIT before being sold to Colonnade BridgePort, and currently comprises 11-14 tenants, including No Frills, Giant Tiger, Dollarama, Mark's, and Northern Reflections.
History[]
Prior to being constructed, the centre along with its surrounding area was meerly a field and some farmland. The centre was built and opened circa 2004.
Urban Planet was a tenant from August 2006 to January 27th, 2019 when it closed to make way for Mark's, which was formerly located at 910 O'Brien Road (now a Long & McQuade musical instrument store) just northeast of the centre, and The Source closed its location at the centre two weeks later on February 11th. Staples Canada had a location at the centre before 2012, and it sat vacant for 5 years until 2017 when it was announced that Giant Tiger was moving into the former store from its original location (which currently still remains vacant) at 48 Raglan Street South. The new location opened on April 28th, 2018. Reitman's was also formerly at the centre, and Pet Valu moved into the former Reitman's sometime after it closed. Pet Valu's original, much smaller location in the centre became a Stacked Pancake & Breakfast House on January 24th, 2024.
Other restaurants in the centre include a BarBurrito (formerly a Pizza Pizza and a jewelry store) and a shawarma restaurant (formerly a Mr. Sub). KFC was in consideration to move into the former Source from its longtime downtown location at 70 Raglan Street South, but this plan never followed through, and The Source is now currently occupied by Priority Business Services. An EasyHome store was also formerly at the centre before closing and reopening its EasyFinancial services unit in a former Biba clothing store within the same centre. Another store that formerly existed at the centre was Herbal Magic, which is now a nail salon.
Adjacent to the centre are a Mobil gas station, a No Frills, and a Tim Hortons. No Frills was originally a Your Independent Grocer located at 740 Stewart Street in the North Renfrew Mall, which relocated to the centre in 2004. The original store later became Liquidation World, which closed July-August 2009, and was demolished along with the mall by 2010. There is also another Tim Hortons location in Renfrew at 383 Stewart Street, which is a Wendy's combo restaurant.
To this day, the centre continues to operate and likely will for many years to come.
