History[]
The lot that Peach Street Square is on was gonna be the original location for a Wegmans in 1992 but plans however changed and Wegmans was instead built near Hershey Road and Peach Street in Millcreek Township. Wegmans later sold the land to Beechwood, Ohio based-Retail Value Inc in 1994, who had plans to develop the land into a whole shopping center, originally named Summit Towne Square, the name was then changed to Peach Street Square during construction to prevent confusion with the Summit Towne Center which was right across the street. The shopping center finished construction and officially opened sometime in 1995 with major big-box stores like Lowe's, Kohl's, Party City, Media Play and Walmart. This was also the first ever Walmart location in the Erie Metropolitan area. Two years later in 1997, Peach Street Square II was built down the road as an expansion to the original Peach Street Square with 3 new anchor tenants. Those anchors were Circuit City, Petsmart and The Home Depot. RVI Later built more shopping centers near Peach Street Square like Erie Marketplace in 2000, Keystone Place in 2003, Rotunda Plaza in 2004, and Peach Tree Marketplace in 2019. In the early 2000's, Peach Street Marketplace started seeing some major closures. Media Play shut down in 2006 and remained vacant for a good while until 2009 when Erie Sports Store moved into half of the store splitting it into two. Staples relocated from the Summit Towne Center and moved into the vacant half of the store in 2011. Erie Sports Store later closed in 2018 due to bankruptcy and has remained vacant since then. During the same time, a small little plaza area was located on the right of the Media Play which had an H&R Block, Sally's Beauty Supply and Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree took over the whole space in October, 2011 and Sally's moved into the Erie Marketplace in the former Book Outlet space. Circuit City closed down in early 2009 due to bankruptcy and became HHgregg in 2010. HHgregg also closed in 2017 due to bankruptcy and the space was split into two spaces in 2021, Boot Barn and the other space still remains vacant. Walmart shut down in 2010 and relocated down the road to build a supercenter store, The space was split into two spaces, the left side became Hobby Lobby in 2011 and the right side became Burlington Coat Factory in 2012, relocating from the Millcreek Mall. Old Navy which also relocated from the Millcreek Mall was built on the right side of Burlington in 2014. Then in 2015, a small outparcel plaza was built on the southeast side of Peach Street Square. The outparcel included Blaze Pizza, America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses, Famous Footwear and Gap Factory Outlet. Gap and Famous Footwear, funny enough, were both also relocated from the Millcreek Mall. Famous Footwear ended up closing down in 2019 and has remained vacant ever since. In March 2023, Gap Factory Outlet quietly closed down, leaving two vacant spaces in the small outparcel plaza.
