Nordstrom Canada was officially established in 2014, marking the company's first expansion outside of the United States. The decision to venture into Canada was driven by Nordstrom's desire to tap into the Canadian retail market, which was known for its strong consumer base and increasing demand for high-quality fashion and luxury goods.
History[]
Prior to its Canadian launch, Nordstrom acquired the leases of several Sears Canada locations, which were struggling financially at the time. This strategic move allowed Nordstrom to quickly establish a presence in key Canadian cities and benefit from existing retail infrastructure.
The first Nordstrom store in Canada opened its doors in Calgary, Alberta, in September 2014. The 140,000 square-foot flagship store was located in the Chinook Centre, a popular shopping destination in the city. The opening of Nordstrom's first Canadian location was highly anticipated, attracting large crowds of eager shoppers.
Following the success of the Calgary store, Nordstrom expanded its footprint across Canada. Over the next few years, additional Nordstrom locations were opened in major cities such as Vancouver, British Columbia, Toronto, Ontario, and Ottawa, Ontario. Nordstrom's expansion into Canada was driven by its commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and providing a wide range of luxury and designer brands.
Nordstrom Canada positioned itself as a destination for premium fashion, offering a curated selection of clothing, shoes, accessories, beauty products, and home goods.

Nordstrom Canada Bankruptcy[]
In March 2023, Nordstrom Canada filed for bankruptcy, joining the list of American-Canadian companies that faced similar challenges, such as Target Canada and Sears Canada. The last Nordstrom Canada location closed in June 2023
