Nittany Mall is a one-level shopping mall 4.5 miles (7.2 km) northeast of downtown State College, Pennsylvania, between East College Avenue, Benner Pike and Shiloh Road in College Township, a suburb of State College. The mall has three open anchors which are Dunham's Sports, Gabe's and Rural King.

Mall History[]

Thee Nittany Mall opened in January 1968, developed by Crown American. It originally featured two anchor stores: Grants and Penn Traffic. In 1970, Sears joined as a third anchor, relocating from downtown State College to the mall. When Grants went out of business in 1976, its space was quickly taken over by Gee Bee.

In 1982, Penn Traffic closed, and its location was renovated into a Hess's store. Gee Bee shuttered in 1992, with Value City taking over its space. Another expansion occurred in 1990, adding a fourth anchor, JCPenney. During the same period, Sears moved to a new section on the east side of the mall, and its Auto Center relocated to a separate space, eventually moving again to a standalone building on the property.

In 1994, Hess's was converted into Bon-Ton, and in 1997, Value City closed and its building was demolished to make way for Kaufmann's. In September 2006, Kaufmann's was rebranded as Macy's.

JCPenney closed in 2015, and in 2016, Dunham's Sports opened in its place. Both Sears and Bon-Ton closed in 2018, leaving the mall with only two anchors. In March 2020, Macy's closed, and by March 2021, Rural King had opened in the former Sears space. In June 2021, Gabe's opened in the former Bon-Ton location.
