Mayflower Mall is a regional shopping mall located in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. Its current anchors are Best Buy, Winners, HomeSense, and Hudson's Bay.
History[]
The mall opened in 1980 with the anchors of Dominion, Hudson's Bay, and Woolco.
In 1983, Hudson's Bay was converted into a Simpsons, but it was reverted to Hudson's Bay in 1986 when Simpsons left the Atlantic Canadian market.
In 1985, Dominion closed their Nova Scotian locations, IGA bought most of the locations and converted them into IGA stores including Mayflower Mall.
In the early 1990s, a standalone Sobeys was built in the parking lot of the mall. In March 1994, Woolco was acquired by Walmart and became a Walmart store.
In the late 1990s, IGA closed. Soon after, it was replaced by Business Depot which was later rebranded to Staples Canada.
In 2006, Walmart relocated to a free-standing store across the street in a new power centre development owned by the mall. The original Walmart site was redeveloped to include retailers such as Sport Chek, Winners, Future Shop, and East Side Mario's.
In 2008, Sobeys closed its stand-alone store at the mall. Soon after, Michael's. Mark's, and Pets Unlimited moved into the space.
In 2015, Future Shop closed and was replaced by a Best Buy. In 2022, Best Buy moved across the mall hallway to a smaller space. A Homesense moved into the old store in 2023.
