History[]
Madawaska Centre was built by the year 1981 with 3 anchors, Consumers Distributing, SaveEasy and Kmart, the mall was built very far from other retail areas in the city. During the early 1990's, SaveEasy closed and was later converted into Bargain Giant, Consumers Distributing closed during the late 1990's due to bankruptcy later being replaced with a Staples. Kmart was replaced with a Zellers in 1998 after being bought out by the Hudson's Bay Company, a brand new Dollarama later opened at the mall during the late 2000's, also around this time, Bargain Giant closed and was replaced with Hart. The food court was closed off by the year 2010 shortly after Tim Hortons closed, by the year 2013, Zellers closed its doors after being bought out by Target, Target declined the lease of this location resulting in the area staying abandoned. During the year 2022, Hart and Dollarama both closed their doors, resulting in the mall officialy closing down, as of today, Staples and Corruven still remain open at the former mall area.
