KB Toys (or Kay Bee Toy & Hobby) was a chain of mall-based toy stores in the United States founded in 1922 by the Kaufman brothers. KB Toys could be found in over 600 locations in 44 states, and their headquarters was located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Stores operated under the names KB Toys, KB Toy Works, and KB Toy Outlets.

The chain went through the process of liquidating all of its stores following a December 11, 2008 Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Toys "R" Us acquired the trademark and is deciding what to do with the name.

Closures[]

  • In 2004, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and closed 365 stores, citing competition from discount retailers (such as Walmart and Target).
  • In 2007, KB Toys closed 156 more of their locations on November 18.
  • In 2008, KB Toys begins liquidating all remaining stores over the course of the next four years.
