IGA Canada is a Canadian group of independent grocers supplied by Sobeys, it primarily operates in Quebec, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

History[]

IGA expanded into Canada during the 1950's in Ontario and Quebec, the chain expanded into the Maritimes and Western Canada around the 1960's, by the year 1999, all Nova Scotia locations and most New Brunswick locations were sold to Loblaws with the remaining ones in New Brunswick adding a Co-op. The chain opened more locations in Quebec and Western Canada and introduced the IGA Extra chain during the early 2000's to take the place of Sobeys in Quebec, it later expanded to New Brunswick during the late 2000's. During the year 2019, 2 Sobeys locations in New Brunswick were converted into IGA Extra.

These kinds of IGA stores are common in Western Canada being introduced during the 1950's having Bank ATM's in them.

IGA Extra[]

This concept was introduced during the early 2000's having locations in Quebec and New Brunswick.

IGA + Co-op[]

These stores can be seen in New Brunswick, existing since the 1980's and some opening by the year 2016.
