Harvey's is a Canadian fast food restaurant chain which was founded in 1959.
History[]
In 1959, George B. Sukornyk and Rick Mauran founded Harvey's. The first restaurant was located in Richmond Hill, Ontario on the lot of a former Dairy Queen restaurant. Originally, Harvey's was going to be a seasonal restaurant chain, but they decided to have it open all year-round.
Soon after, they started franchising Harvey's, and more locations started opening up throughout Ontario.
Harvey's made their own concept for a fast food chain. The customer would move down a line and tell the employee exactly what toppings they wanted on their burger, and they would see it happening right in front of their eyes. This concept is similar to Subway, but with burgers instead of subs.
In the 1970s, Harvey's merged with Industrial growth limited to form Foodcorp. In 1979, Cara Operations bought out this company, which has since rebranded to Recipe Unlimited.
When the fast food chain "Hardee's" came into Canada, because of the name similarity, Harvey's did not allow them to use the name. So, all Canadian Hardee's restaurants are branded as Carl's Jr instead.
