History[]

The Hamilton Walmart Centre was originally built in 2005 with Walmart as its first anchor. There were around 12 other smaller tenants such as Reitmans and Payless Shoe Source. The Hamilton Walmart Centre was built on land previously occupied by farmland and a few houses, over the years, more suburban housing continues to be built in the area.

In 2010, Smart Centres REIT sold the property to RioCan REIT, who continue to own and manage the property today. A year later, Walmart had a major renovation and expansion which turned the location into a Walmart Supercentre. In the same year, a new part of the power centre opened, adding Staples, Winners, and Bouclair Home to the mix of tenants.

In October 2016, Canadian Tire opened their new store at Hamilton Walmart Centre. A few years later, a Canadian Tire Gas bar was also constructed.

In 2020, the centre was once again expanded. A new section of smaller tenants was constructed, and a retirement home opened next to Staples. In the same year, a large suburban development was constructed directly behind the centre.

Today, the Hamilton Walmart Centre continues to be a popular shopping destination in the Hannon area.
