Greenwood Mall is a shopping centre in Greenwood, NS, Canada. The property has two sections. An enclosed mall section, and a strip mall section which is owned by a separate entity. The property is currently anchored by Walmart Supercentre, Home Hardware. and Rewards Dept. Store.
History[]
Greenwood Mall opened in 1960 as a strip mall. Its original anchors were Metropolitan and IGA. Other then the anchors, there were about 10-15 other stores within the strip mall.
In 1970, a new enclosed section of the mall was built. IGA added a new indoor entrance into the mall. Since the Metropolitan was on the other side of the property, no mall entrance could be built.
In the 1980s, Metropolitan closed this location. Soon after, Kmart moved into the space. At the same time, the plaza also received a renovation.
In the 1990s, a food court was added. The current tenants of the Greenwood Mall food court are Greco Pizza, A&W, and Subway. There was formerly a Tim Hortons, but that closed in the late 2010s. A koi pond and water fountain was also added at the other end of the mall.
In 1998, Kmart closed as part of the HBC buyout, this was one of the locations that was converted to Zellers. A year later, as part of the Sobeys Oshawa Group buyout, the IGA at Greenwood Mall was converted to Price Chopper.
After only a few years, the Price Chopper at Greenwood Mall closed. A couple years later, it was replaced with Home Hardware and Country Store.
On June 6th, 2012, Zellers closed its store. This location was purchased by Walmart which opened in October 2012.
In August 2015, a new Giant Tiger opened at Greenwood Mall. to facilitate the new store, part of the mall had to be completely reconfigured, resulting in the koi pond/fountain to be dismantled. However, a brand new koi pond was added after the construction was complete.
