History[]

Eclipse was founded in 1974 by Cyril and Pam Bulgin. The first location opened in Newfoundland. Originally, the chain was called "The Jean Shop." However, this name was later changed to "Eclipse".

The founders marketed the chain as an affordable and fashionable retailer that sold primarily women's clothing . This sentiment continues today.

The original store became very popular. Because of this, the two founders eventually started to franchise locations and grow the company. In the 1970s and 80s. Enclosed shopping malls were at their peak, that's why most Eclipse locations were opened in shopping malls.

Eventually, Eclipse grew out out Newfoundland & Labrador and into the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario, and Western Canada. The chain became one of the largest women's clothing retailers in Canada.

In the 2000s, shopping malls across Canada began to decline. During this time, most retailers began to close locations and move to other shopping areas. But Eclipse continues to have almost all of their locations in malls, even dead malls which don't have many retailers.

Today, Eclipse continues to be a successful clothing retailer in Canada.
