Corner Brook Plaza is a regional enclosed shopping mall in Corner Brook, NL. Its the largest enclosed mall in Newfoundland outside of the capital, Saint John's.

History

Corner Brook Plaza opened in 1973. Its original anchors were Kmart, Sears, and Dominion. This mall had the only full department Sears in Newfoundland outside of Saint John's. The mall opened with much success, there were many national tenants throughout the mall. Corner Brook Plaza quickly became the most popular mall in Western Newfoundland & Labrador.

In the early 1990s, a major renovation was done at the mall, the interior, exterior, and all of the anchors were completely redone to make the mall much more modern.

In 1998, the Hudson's Bay Company acquired Kmart Canada, most locations were turned into Zellers, including the Corner Brook Plaza location.

In the 2000s, Dominion closed their location at the mall. Later on, the former Dominion space was replaced with Sport Chek.

On December 26th, 2012, Zellers closed at Corner Brook Plaza. Luckily, this location was bought by Target Canada. The new Target location had an opening date of November 13th, 2013. This was one of two locations in Newfoundland & Labrador, the other one was in Saint John's.

On April 4th, 2015, Target Canada permanently closed at Corner Brook Plaza after Target ended their Canadian operations. After staying vacant for awhile, the malls concourse was expanded into the space. Boston Pizza, Dollarama, Ardene, and others moved into the new mall section.

In July 2017, Sears Canada closed as part of a 20 store closure, this was only a few months before the company completely left the Canadian market. This space continues to remain vacant, its currently being used for storage.

Even with one of the anchors at Corner Brook Plaza being vacant, the mall still has many national retailers, and continues to be one of the most popular malls in Newfoundland & Labrador.
