The Chautauqua Mall is a one-level shopping mall 3.4 miles (5.5 km) east of downtown Jamestown, New York, between East Fairmount Avenue and Mall Boulevard, in Lakewood, a suburb of Jamestown. The mall has one open anchor which is JCPenney.

Mall History[]

The mall opened in 1971 by Edward J. DeBartolo, Sr. and the original anchor stores included JCPenney, Quality Markets, Sears and Woolworth. JCPenney vacated its store in 1986, which was later converted to Jamesway that same year. This new Jamesway store, the 100th in the chain, was a replacement for the first store in the Jamesway chain, located in nearby Jamestown. Jamesway and Woolworth closed in 1993, and Quality Markets moved outside the mall to the Lakewood Village Center. In 1997, JCPenney returned to the mall in the portion of the former Jamesway space, while the former Woolworth store was expanded to become a 60,000 square foot (5,600 m2) Bon-Ton. The remainder of the former Jamesway space later became OfficeMax. Several new stores were also added, including Old Navy, Gap, Spencers, new locations for EB Games, Hallmark and a food court. The food court closed in 1999 due to the original owner of its vendors withdrawing from the mall, but it reopened the same year with Orange Julius, Hot Stuff Pizza and Mean Gene's Burgers. All of the restaurants closed by 2002, but the food court soon reopened again with local tenants and a Subway. In 2013, an Olive Garden restaurant opened in front of the mall on the former Firestone lot. In 2017, Planet Fitness would open in the former Bounce A Lot Playland space and the food court space, however Planet Fitness does not have an entrance to the interior of the mall. Bon-Ton would later close down in 2018 and remain vacant and Sears would close the next year in 2019. Also in 2019, a Taco Bell would open a location in the parking lot of Chautauqua Mall, relocating from a location just down the road. OfficeMax would close in 2020 however it would open as an Ollie's Bargain Outlet in 2021. In 2022, Kohan Retail Investment Group purchased the mall from Washington Prime Group. In August 2023, the 2-screen movie theater inside the mall closed down permanently due to problems with a leaky roof.
