Champlain Place Mall (formerly CF Champlain) is a regional enclosed shopping centre located in Dieppe (Moncton) New Brunswick.

History[]

Before the mall was built, there was a marsh and a rural area with not much development. That changed in the late 1960s.

The mall originally was slated to have an opening date of 1969, but the construction company went bankrupt while doing the project due to the immense cost of filling in a massive marsh. In 1970, a Simpsons-Sears opened while the rest of the mall was only partially constructed.

In 1972, Simpson's-Sears was re-branded to just "Sears"

In 1973, a different construction company resumed the construction of the mall, it opened the next year in 1974 with the anchors of Sears, Dominion, Woolco, and Consumers Distributing. Some of the stores that opened with the mall include: Radioland, Tip Top Tailors, and Jack Fraser.

In 1987, the Dominion location at the mall was re-branded to Village Food Stores following a buy-out of the New Brunswick locations.

In 1990, an amusement park called Crystal Palace was built in the parking lot of the mall. It was one of the largest indoor amusement parks in Canada at the time.

In 1994, Walmart bought out the Canadian division of Woolco, the location at Champlain Place was rebranded to Walmart Canada.

In 1995, Village Food Stores ended their operations. soon after, the space was replaced by Toys "R" Us.

The year after, Consumers Distributing went bankrupt and closed all of their stores. The location at Champlain Place was demolished and replaced with a Sobeys grocery store.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Champlain Place continued to thrive, by 2012, Champlain Place became the only mall in Moncton.

In 2014, the Crystal Palace amusement park ended their operations, soon after, it was replaced with a Bass Pro Shops location.

In 2017, Sears Canada ended their operations and all of their locations were closed. The location at this mall was eventually replaced with TD Bank offices.

Today, Champlain Place continues to be a successful shopping centre with many national retailers and outlets.

In October 2024, it was announced that Cadillac Fairview would be selling Champlain Place to Westcliff. The sale will be completed sometime in November 2024.
