Bayers Road Centre is a dead shopping mall located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The mall opened in 1958 as Bayers Road Shopping Centre (renamed The Village At Bayers Road in the late 1990s). As of today, it is only being anchored by Lawtons Drugs.
History[]
The mall opened in 1958 with its anchors being Lawtons Drugs and Dominion (Which was a standalone building.) In 1960, Zellers opened a store as another anchor. Throughout 1971 and 1972, the mall had its first major expansion, adding a large relocation of Zellers (1972), The Red Fox Tavern (1971), and many others. The previous Zellers space was reconfigured into additional mall space. The mall further expanded in the 1980's with more and more stores opening, the mall would later start to decline in the late 1990's due to being overshadowed by the much larger Halifax Shopping Centre, during the early 2000's, Mark's closed their store and relocated directly near the West End Mall. After that, the mall started to lose tenants with their first anchor store Zellers closing by the end of 2006 due to declining sales. Bulk Barn closed in 2008 after relocating to a new plaza next to Shoppers Drug Mart. In the late 2000s, the mall was renamed to Bayer's Road Centre to reflect that it now had more offices than stores and it wasn't really a mall anymore. By the year 2019, Subway relocated from the mall's food court to a nearby clinic that was also inside the mall. In the year 2023, TD Canada Trust closed and relocated to a free-standing building next to Atlantic Superstore.
