Bay Centre (formerly known as Victoria Eaton Centre) is a Canadian shopping mall located at downtown Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, the mall currently has around 93 tenants in total and is currently owned by LaSalle Investment Management.
History[]
Spencer's which was a department store in Canada, opened at what would eventually become Bay Centre in 1873, eventually in 1948, the store would go bankrupt and be replaced with Eaton's, the mall would start construction during the late 1980's, in order to build the mall, many historic buildings had to be demolished, which caused a lot of controversy at the time. Eaton's remained as a mall anchor even after Bay Centre opened, in 1999, Eaton's shut down and was replaced with Sears, during the early-mid 2000's, Sears would be replaced with Hudson's Bay, by the year 2010, Cadillac Fairview sold the mall of to LaSalle Investment Management, the mall continued adding more tenants during the 2010's including anchor tenants Sport Chek and Winners, as of today remains as a well known mall in downtown Victoria.
